Summer eczema

Summer eczema (also called tail and mane eczema) is an allergic skin reaction in horses caused by the saliva of Culicoides midges (midges). It occurs mainly in the warm months and leads to intense itching, rubbing up to bleeding, skin inflammation and bald patches at the tail, mane or belly. These symptoms cause stress for the horse and for the owner.
