Just as he got his second chance, we believe our supplements support horses to be at their best. Future products will also continue to carry this philosophy.
Unique is more than a name - it is the soul of everything we do
On 10 August 2021, a rescue took place that no one will ever forget. A small horse lay in the scorching heat for three days, waiting for help. With a fever of 40 degrees, without food or drink and far too skinny, he had been left like old rubbish. We pulled out all the stops to save his life; we cared for him 24 hours a day. Every three hours he had to be lifted, that's how weak he was. It was a real struggle, but we didn't give up. Day in, day out, week after week, we dedicated ourselves to his recovery. We eventually named him Unique, a tribute to his resilience and our joint effort to make him healthy and happy again.

Unique is doing very well. After a difficult period, he has regained his strength and health with proper care, nutrition, vitamins and minerals. Now he lives in freedom with his herd in our nature park at the Los Caballos Luna horse sanctuary in Spain. His story is one of hope and recovery; he did not have to die to get to heaven, but was able to embrace his life again. The scars on his body are still visible, but they remind us of his past and the struggles he faced. Unique now stands confidently in life, a symbol of resilience and the power of loving care.

Like the horse that inspired us
Horses are my passion and my life. Ever since I was young, these beautiful animals have fascinated me immensely. By watching and listening to them very carefully, I came to understand them better and better and was able to help others. For years I trained people in the Netherlands to become one with their horse.
Then it was time for a change, Together with my daughter Luna, I emigrated to Spain. We were going to organise wonderful equestrian holidays and enjoy the Spanish life.
It all turned out very differently when we came into contact with the enormous suffering of a group of severely neglected horses. A mare lay emaciated on the ground, surrounded by hungry foals. An empty look in her eyes. Total neglect. The mare was spent. She could do no more. Holding the mare's head in my hands, I watched helplessly and with grief as the animal closed her eyes and died. Watching idly how this could happen was not an option for me.
From then on, I decided to do everything I could to take in horses living in deplorable conditions, care for them, give them a voice and revive their sad eyes. In June 2012, the Foundation Horse in Distress Spain born.

The Horse in Distress Spain Foundation is proud of its own horse shelter, Los Caballos Luna, located in beautiful Andalusia, Spain. This shelter is a safe haven for horses in serious distress.
In recent years, the foundation has rescued more than 3,000 horses from the most deplorable conditions. Of these horses, more than 150 are old, blind or traumatised and they will stay with the foundation forever. In a vast 175-hectare nature park, they live in herds, where they can enjoy their lives in complete freedom, away from the fear of humans.
Thanks to the foundation's efforts, these beautiful animals are given the chance to recover and start a new life, trying to make up for the damage others have done to them.
Laura Dumernit-Hoitsema is founder of the Horse in Distress Spain Foundation and horse sanctuary Los Caballos Luna in Spain. For many years, she and her team have worked to rehabilitate rescued horses. The horses often come to us lean, malnourished and severely deficient in all kinds of essential nutrients. For each individual horse, tailor-made feeding schedules are made with the necessary vitamins and minerals to get the horses healthy and vital again as soon as possible. By carefully experimenting with different products, we have gained valuable knowledge and experience in improving the horses' health and vitality.
