Of course, we all want that. Yet a horse\u2019s body sometimes has to handle quite a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think of changing temperatures, the transition to another season, intensive training, transport, or a period of stress. It can also be important for older horses to pay extra attention to their overall condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good resistance starts at the base: proper nutrition, sufficient roughage, exercise, rest and a healthy living environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can affect the resistance?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A horse's immune system is constantly active. Various conditions can place additional demands on the body:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Seasonal changes:<\/strong> Changes in temperature, daylight, and coat can be associated with a different energy requirement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stress and transport:<\/strong> Changes in the environment or routine can be stressful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intensive effort:<\/strong> Training and competitions require a good balance between load and recovery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Getting older:<\/strong> In the case of older horses, nutrition, muscle condition and overall health deserve extra attention.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recovery after illness:<\/strong> During this period, the body may need adapted nutrition and care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not mean that a horse has a reduced resistance under these conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you recognize that your horse needs extra attention?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you notice that your horse is less energetic than usual, moves less enthusiastically, or seems to take longer to get back into its normal rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That can have several causes and does not necessarily have to have anything to do with resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your horse remains noticeably tired, has a fever, eats less, or exhibits other signs of illness, have a veterinarian assess the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supporting resistance begins with good care<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adequate and quality rough feed forms the basis. In addition, a balanced ration, clean drinking water, appropriate exercise and sufficient rest are important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vitamins and trace elements also play a role in the normal functioning of the immune system. Proper intake of, among other things, vitamins A, E, zinc, copper and selenium is particularly important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, adding more does not automatically make things better.
