Hormonal changes are part of a mare's normal cycle. However, some mares react more noticeably around the time they are in season than others. You might notice changes in behaviour, sensitivity, concentration or performance.
When these changes are strikingly pronounced or recur regularly, it is important to look further into what is going on.
What happens during hormonal changes?
During the cycle, a mare's hormone levels are constantly changing. That is a natural process. In some mares, these fluctuations seem to have more of an impact on behaviour and welfare.
For example, you might notice that a mare:
- More irritable or more sensitive
- Less concentrated at work
- Other responds to touch or leg aids
- Show different behaviour around oestrus
- Fluctuations shown in performance or movement comfort
Not every behavioural problem in a mare has a hormonal cause. In the case of clear, sudden or persistent changes, it is wise to have physical causes ruled out.
What can Unique CL20 add?
Unique CL20 Balance Booster has been developed for horses where, amongst other things, metabolism and natural hormone balance could use extra attention.
An important ingredient within the formula is Vitex agnus-castus (monk's pepper). This plant-based ingredient is traditionally used to support the natural hormone balance.
Furthermore, CL20 contains, amongst other things:
- B vitamins that play a role in normal metabolic processes
- Zinc as an essential trace element for various body processes
- Vitamin E and grape extract for antioxidant support
- Milk thistle to support normal liver function
- Turmeric: as a plant-based ingredient with antioxidant properties
Precisely because hormone balance is not separate from other processes in the body, CL20 combines support for natural hormone balance, metabolism, liver function and immunity in one daily formula.
Sometimes you can tell from your mare's behaviour that something is changing. Then it is good to look further than just that behaviour.
